All problems become smaller if you don’t dodge them but confront them. ~William F. Halsey
After an over one year absence from my local gym, I have decided it is time to go back. I missed going and my walking routine has not been consistent or much of a work out. Now that my shoulder injury is no longer an issue I can return to my beloved yoga and workouts.
My commitment to taking care of myself is a value that I had let go by the wayside.
What category does going to the gym fit into?
- physical self-care and health
- leisure and play
- work and career
- personal growth and education
- self-kindness and compassion
I think for me, it fits into all these areas of my life.
Sure, going to the gym is mainly for physical self-care and health but spirituality?
I am able to tune into my peace and stillness while on the yoga mat.
Creative ideas pop into my head when I am walking on the treadmill and that is why I like to have my phone with me to jot down notes.
Leisure and Play: It gets me out from behind the computer screen and it’s fun.
When I feel more fit, I am better equipped to go to work and focus on my career.
Personal growth and education: I can listen to books on audio or lectures or just some funky music.
The self-kindness and compassion category has been an area that seems to go by the wayside at times but I am working on that one. Making the decision to join the gym is taking me in the direction that I want to go.
As you can see, many of our values overlap and can fit into many areas of our lives.
What areas in your life seem to be a problem? What solutions can you think of to move you closer to the life that you want to live?
