    Mini Canvas and MonoPrint Tutorial

    Recently, I received a few random art supplies. Part of the supplies were these tiny mini canvas. They are 2”x2”. With some of my Gelli® printing plate mono prints from the workshop that I took with Julie Fei-Fan Balzer I traced around the canvas onto a section of the deli paper. With colored pencil I drew 2 portraits on the mono prints within my guidelines. When I was done, I cut out the portraits. I used Golden’s matte gel and a painting knife to spread the medium onto the canvas to act as a glue. The image was placed over the gel medium right side up and smoothed out. One of…

    Mandala Monday

    I’m all done with the 2015 Index Card A Day challenge. I started each morning with the index card and this morning, when I didn’t have one to make it felt a bit odd. When I started, I didn’t know if I could make each one into a mandala. At times, I took liberal use of the word mandala and at least stuck to the circular form. If I could go back and change anything I would have used a thicker paper so that I could send them through the mail as postcards. I recently finished another challenge, #the100dayproject.     Mandala Monday

    The Index Card A Day Challenge is coming to a close soon. I am working on the last five to round out the 61 cards in total. This last week I didn’t put too much thought into all of the prompts, like “Envelope”. It has instant recognition as an airmail envelope. A tricky one to see right away is France. Do you see the six simplistic Eiffel Towers? Art lets you get away with a lot of interpretation, doesn’t it?

    Koi Coloring Pens As Watercolor

    I’ve been using Koi Coloring Pens as watercolor in my art journals. The technique that I use with the Koi Coloring Pens: sketch the face with a pencil add the Koi Coloring Pen wash the ink with the waterbrush wait until dry erase any extra pencil You don’t need very much ink from the pen to get a lot of color. The pages that I am working on can’t take a lot of water or they will wrinkle a lot, so this technique of only wetting the ink a little works well.
