I heard a joke the other day about all the new electronic gadgets that are available now. They save us a lot of time from the things we never had to do before.
I usually respond quickly to emails and phone calls but today I took a day off from responding to the electronic world.
During my hiatus I went for a short walk to the recycled and salvage building materials store, Urban Ore in Berkeley with my husband. The store keeps all kinds of items from going to the landfill because they still have a use and may be of value to someone again, at least temporarily.
We saw a lot of claw foot tubs, antique furniture and salvaged odds and ends. My computer, which doesn’t seem very old in comparison to some of the items we saw today is considered “vintage” according to Apple. Whenever I go to youtube.com I get the message that I have an outdated browser. When I go to itunes, it asks me if I would like to get the latest version. Yes, of course, I would like to update, but my computer has reached the upper limit of upgradeability. I guess waiting more than five years for a new computer is like dog years in some well-made furniture.
I think it is good to unplug and step back once in awhile. It was so wonderful to go for a walk today. It was a short walk. But a good use of my time.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are unplugged?
