    Imagine A Forest Book Review

Imagine a Forest by Dinara Mirtalipova is a lovely book. I do not want to purchase any more books. There is an overflowing bookcase in my studio with perfectly wonderful books. My Kindle app is filled with all kinds of books as well. However, I just could not resist the opportunity to study the techniques in Imagine a Forest. Dinara presents several step-by-step instructions on how to draw flowers, foliage, insects, and animals. Inspired by My Favorite Things

Once a month, the Friends of the Palo Alto Library holds a book sale which is one of my favorite things. Their current two books, The Book of Zentangle and Zentangle Primer, Vol. 1, are well made, hard cover books. These books have a lot of background and information about the zentangle method that I have not found elsewhere. The illustrations are superb which is where…

    Playing With Surface Design

My friend, Courtney Cerruti, has written her third book, Playing With Surface Design. The subtitle is: Modern techniques for painting, stamping, printing and more. It’s an excellent collection of mixed-media art projects. When I talked to Courtney at her book signing, I asked her what her favorite project from the book was. She pointed to the wall with all of the washi taped images. She said it was printing with a gelatin plate. Not a Gelli Arts plate, but the made-from-scratch kind. Courtney said the results that you get from a home-made gelatin plate have a more watercolor type look. I haven’t tried it yet. In the meantime, I got…
