• Grace Mendez Cheat Sheet

    What is a Cheat Sheet?

Here are a few reasons that I like creating cheat sheets: You can test out your supplies. It saves time when you are looking for a particular color. It can be used as a reference card when replacing the supply. Cheat Sheets are Easy to Create Get a piece of paper, preferably close to, or the same type of substrate that you will be working on Cut it to the shape that will fit with your supplies Add your supply to the card If desired, write the name and/or the color number to the corresponding swatch Watch a short video on a couple of my cheat sheets: Do you do…

How to Choose a Palette and Speed Up Your Art Making

Why Choosing a Palette will Speed Up Your Art Making To be clear, we are going to talk about choosing colors for your palette, not the board or location where the paints, or colors are stored. The speeding up process comes when it’s time to create your artwork. When you don’t spend time figuring out what colors to use before you start, you can get on with it. The 100 Day Project 2017 Update

I’m three-quarters of the way through the one-hundred-day project challenge. Find out more about the #the100dayproject here. Except for one day when I forgot entirely because I had an overnight guest and my routine was a lot different from the usual, I’ve worked on the project. In the beginning of a project, there is excitement and momentum. Then monotony sets in but you have to keep working. Some of the work is crap and that is okay. It’s just what happens when you work your way through a large project or even a small project. All your…

The 100 Day Project Postcards 2017 First Third

The 100 Day Project 2017 There are a few more postcards that are not included but you get the idea of my theme. If you don’t see a theme, this is my theme: just do something each day on a 4’x6″ postcard. Some days it’s watercolor, some days it’s using crayons. Mostly what I do is based on how much time I am willing to devote to the postcards. Some days it’s watercolor, some days it’s using crayons. Mostly what I do is based on how much time I am willing to devote to the postcards. I’ve only missed one day so far. Find out more about the #the100dayproject here To see…

How can you use nature as inspiration, especially when you are not painting or drawing a nature scene? Let’s look at trees as an example. I love looking at trees. I live in an urban setting and a lot of the trees in my neighborhood are set in a landscape. These trees are not growing in a natural grove. They grow between the streets and the sidewalks. Trees adorn common spaces in condo and apartment complexes and grow in the city parks. Arborists chop and trim their tops to fit under the power lines when their limbs stretch to the sky. I’m grateful they grow here because they are a…
